The Orangeville Blues & Jazz Festival runs on the energy of its volunteers. More than 130 hard working and creative people from in and around Orangeville donated many hours in 2009. People volunteer in every capacity: from serving on the Board of Directors to site management; Stage setup; Artist shuttles; Vendor assistance and Publicity. Volunteer Job Descriptions
Beer Garden - Team Leader, John Christie
Servers: To serve alcohol and to ensure compliance to liquor control regulations and the safety of patrons. Friendly, responsible and energetic. Must be 19 yrs. of age or older and have Smart Serve Certificate.
Ticket Sellers: To sell beer/wine tickets to the public. Must be good with cash, personable, responsible. Can be fast paced at times.
Support Staff: Supply servers with orders and maintain inventory, etc. Note: Must be 19 years of age or older to work in this area.
CD and Merchandise Sales - Team Leader, Patti Smith
To sell CD’s, t-shirts, festival and performers merchandise. Must be personable, able to handle cash. Can be fast paced at times.
Hospitality - Team Leader, Kirsten Gimbert
For musicians, VIP’s, and /or volunteers. This can be a very busy area. Must be sociable. Greet people as they come in, keep area tidy, maintain ice & drink supply. Create a welcoming atmosphere.
Marketing - Team Leader, Charles Banfield
Provide Festival marketing support. Contact media outlets with our latest event information and stories.. Update media web pages that support our Festival.
Security - Team Leader, Josh Leitch
Meet the performers and create a welcoming atmosphere while directing them to off load area and parking. Direct the general public to off street parking areas. Control the Beer garden and back stage entrances. Must be friendly, courteous, and able to handle stress. Experience is an asset.
Sign Team - Team Leader Could this be you?
To distribute posters, flyers and programs for all events held during the year.
Install Banners on Broadway with assistance from the RATS team.
Distribute Festival lawn signs. Collect sponsor signs. Hang sponsor signs at the festival. Take down and return sponsor signs after the festival.
Sponsor Team - Team Leader, Gord McWilliams
To contact previous sponsors for a commitment to sponsor the festival again this year. Cold calling at other businesses in the Orangeville area to solicit their support. Previous sales experience an asset but not necessary. Must be friendly and energetic. Most of this work takes place in the early part of the year.
Sound & Stage - Team Leader, Ted Gerber
Assist with the pickup, set up, tear down of stage sound/light equipment. Assist performers with set up and tear down of their equipment.
Transportation Team - Team Leader, Garth Stiebel
Meet and Greet Artists at the Airport. Drive them to their accomodations in Orangeville and shuttle them to the Festival as needed.
RATS (roust about team - Set up/ Break down) - Team Leader, Winston Uytenbogaart
Work with the crew before, during and after the festival to set it up, maintenance during the festival and break it down afterwards. Can be very physical, with long and late hours. Areas include stage, street, and anywhere on site. Times are at the Feb. Bash, Monday Night Movie fundraiser and the Festival itself.
Vendor Team - Team Leader, Tracy Duguay
Meet & Greet our Festival Vendors. Show them where their allocated space is and answer any questions they may have. Some site monitoring during the Festival to solve any problems that may occur.
